New season trends can be a minefield of colours, textures and quirks that are hard to translate into actual everyday wear. This year fur, statement bags and trench coats reign supreme but alongside these, we’ve picked our favourite looks from the AW16 shows.
What you don’t have to do to embrace new season trends is go straight to Net-a-Porter or Harvey Nicks to max out you credit cards on the latest designer must haves. The old adage applies that ‘what goes around comes around’ and many of the most popular pieces from the new season can be found in secondhand designer shops like G&T. After all, style never goes out of fashion.
Puffer jackets + evening wear
The A/W16 shows brought us the slightly more unusual pairing of puffer jackets with evening wear. If you’re bored of boleros or want something a little different to a dress jacket – slip your puffer on over your glad rags. We love the contrast of ‘dressing down’ with glamorous party ‘dress up’ so give it a go! A great quality down-filled jacket will keep you warm all through the Winter, whether you’re going out to party or going out to shop.
Disco in the day time and add sparkle, glitter and sequins to your outfit! Tinsel was huge on the runway for Dolce & Gabbana and Fendi who showed us how to rock it without looking like your nan’s Christmas tree.
We love this Marc Jacobs tinsel and boucle skirt – originally priced at £680 (!) G&T’s price is £170.
They say ‘the devil is in the detail’ and this season, the details are made of metal. Studs, links, hoops and loops were seen on Alexander Wang, Dion Lee and Michael Kors. We love studs, but even more when they’re on a dress and that dress is by Alice Temperley. Priced at £90; add the finishing touches with a Michael Kors Jet Set tote bag for £120.
Nothing says Autumn/Winter like luxurious fabrics in rich colours and this seasons wardrobe is not complete without a velvet jacket, trousers, boots or all three. We adore these Penelope Chilvers boots – currently selling for £299, these can be yours for £140.
Fur always popular for Autumn Winter but this year, be prepared to make a statement in standout furs. Whether is leopard, striped, checked or in our case – blue; let your coat do the talking!
