5 Iconic Bags Everyone Should Own

“Fashion evolves but style endures” – a sentiment we love at G&T and one we encounter every day. Fashions change; that dress we lusted over last week has been replaced by a different, better one and those shiny silver platform boots that were all the rage are now just impractical and uncomfortable. Some things never go out of style though – blue jeans, a white shirt, a little black dress and probably the most important piece; a timeless designer handbag......

The Balenciaga Motorcycle Bag

Widely regarded as the brand’s most iconic piece; the Balenciaga Motorcycle bag was created by Nicolas Ghesquière; who took over as Creative Director in 1997. The first bag he designed for the house in 2000 wasn’t well received. Critics felt it was too soft and lacked the weight and structured design seen in popular bags of the time. Regardless, Ghesquière convinced the corporate bosses to allow him to make 25 prototype bags which he then gave to models, editors and friends.....

The Chanel Jacket

Designed in 1954 by the lady herself, the Chanel jacket is now considered one of the most revolutionary pieces in fashion history. During her visits to Scotland with the Duke of Westminster, Coco discovered tweed – which would later become the basis of her first jacket. Inspired by the straight, fluid lines seen in mens tailoring; Chanel wanted women to be able to move freely; to not feel like they were ‘in costume’. The jacket’s minimalist straight cut.....

Louis Vuitton Noe Bag

The Louis Vuitton Noe was the world’s first bucket bag. Originally created in 1932, it is the second oldest style from the famous fashion house. Louis Vuitton often created new bags as a solution to what we now refer to as ‘first world problems’. The Speedy bag (now undoubtably one of the brands most coveted styles) was first made for Audrey Hepburn who needed Vuitton’s keep-all made smaller so it was suitable for everyday use. Similarly, when Gaston-L.....

Smalls For All

Knickers. Pants. Bras. The bane of our lives; they’re often too tight, too loose or the wrong colour for our outfit. How insignificant do these problems become though when you learn how an everyday item for one woman is a life-changing blessing for another? In Africa, some women have access to only one pair of knickers – or none at all. Those that do, are often considered more wealthy or ‘cared for’ by a male relative and therefore seen as less vulnerable. Who knew that .....

Menu Gordon Jones

It’s not very often I rave about food; mainly because I love all food and therefore if I did, i’d be talking about that great pizza, spaghetti bolognese, cheesecake, falafel, Pad Thai (etc) I had; all day, everyday. We’ve got some amazing restaurants in Bath and are lucky to have such an eclectic mix of independents absolutely nailing the food scene – in fact, if you’re ever stuck for somewhere to eat due to such a vast selection and need a nudge, check ou.....

Its generous size means you can fill it with your everyday essentials and its open structure means it&.....

Love Your Locals

I rant about independent businesses A LOT. I’ve even been on the telly talking about the dire state Bath’s high street may find itself in if things don’t change. I champion independent businesses because I truly believe they are the back bone and lifeblood of the city. Yes, we have magnificent tourist sites and those thermal waters which are pretty special; but once you’ve seen that and you want to really get to know a city – you head to the little shops. .....
